What You Need To See When Buying Used iPhones

We might have said this once but we'll say it again, people just can't get enough of Apple devices and their cell phone solutions. If money is an issue, anyone can always go for a used phone. The term second-hand may not even hold true or even be applicable anymore, because no matter how many users have gone before us, we'll take the phone provided it's in a good working condition.

Typically, you would prefer an unlocked phone or else you would have to go through the hassles of how to unlock a phone. More than anything else, there are other things you would need to figure out before you purchase that used iPhone.

1iPhone Battery

Since Apple created built-in cell phone batteries, you would have to make sure you check details from your seller before making any decision. Ask them it's possible to have a new battery, if the phone has been in use for more than 24 months, especially if the previous user is a heavy user. 500 full cycles can reduce the battery capacity by 20%. Remember to also check any return policies if the battery turns out as otherwise.

2 Inspect the Hardware

It's typical for an iPhone to have a scratch here and there. However, there is some hardware damage that is beyond normal wear and tear that you would need to look out for. Check the phone's condition in person.

You would want to make sure it's also free from water damage. There are sensors on your iPhone, usually on the headset jack or charger port for older models. iPhone 5 and above have theirs on the SIM card slot. If the phone has been wet, the indicator will change to a red/pinkish color. Make sure you check this, because you wouldn't appreciate how much a water damaged phone repair costs.

3 Storage Capacity

The iPhone 7 can give you up to 256GB of storage space. But for some financial reasons, you can only come up with a fraction of what 7 would sell for, which also means, you'd be getting a fraction of its storage capacity. Try to scour for gadgets that have at least 32GB. You wouldn't want to limit yourself because your phone has limited space. Then again, with the Apple mobile solutions, Calgary users can still work with 32GB worth of memory space and below.

4 Features Vs Price

If you're buying a used iPhone, make sure that you are aware what you are spending on. Typically, you would be getting a generation or two behind, which means that you may not get those features other users boast of and brag. But if you are eager to get a hold of your own iPhone, we still believe that sporting an iPhone 4/4S is still edgy versus some Androids, that is. (Oops, sorry but no sorry.)

5 Score a Warranty

There are some sellers who would give out warranty, typically extended ones, even on used iPhones. While you can send in your devices for iPhone repair anytime, Calgary buyers still prefer having a peace of mind not to incur additional costs soon after a used phone purchase.

How to Protect Your Phone from Water

The earth could be a distressing and drizzly place as much as electronic devices are involved, most especially our smart phones. You’re beyond warranted in wishing to secure your mobile phone particularly in who knows how many water-related adventures you might have arranged this summer, that may cause cell phone water damage. Repair comes with a hefty price. Water damage can affect your phone screen, cell phone batteries, and other important components of your device that can impair the amazing cell phone solutions it possess.

Therefore, it would be best to enhance these devices' water resistance, more than ever. There are a couple of indispensable techniques or products to achieve this goal: model-specific cases and general-use dry bags.

1 Water Resistant Cases

Cases intended for Apple and Android devices are available, offering water resistance and protection with the same ease as a standard phone case. When buying a water-resistant case, you may have to look for the Ingress Rating 68 (IP68) which means your devices will be protected from dust and sand particles, while minimizing water damage when your device is accidentally submerged up to 5 feet between 30 minutes and an hour.

If you have an IP67 case, that should do, too. However, you may have to remember not to drop your phone deeper than a meter for more than half an hour. Your phone will still be subjected to dust and sand protection just the same.

The common pitfalls for these cases are the access ports for your headset and charger. Hence, you have to make sure these are properly sealed when you're outdoors or around bodies of water. Because even if the ingress rating says these cases can be submerged up to 5ft for less than an hour, moisture or water can still enter your phones when the access ports are not properly sealed.

2 Dry Bag

If you don't like to shell out a hefty amount, then you could always resort to the ever-useful dry bag, which can be purchased at approximately 10 USD. You can also check their ingress ratings, hopefully to land an IP68, too. But if you can't find any, IPX8 dry bags should be efficient in steering your phone clear of moisture.

While they can be as water-resistant as the cases, dry bags are more like a heavy-duty Ziploc bag meant for e-devices. You can still use your phone while inside the dry bag, well most of its mobile solutions. Calgary can be dry yet wet on a summer day, so you better be careful than sorry.

These two products can really help minimize the adverse effects of moisture to your devices, although they do not necessarily make them water-proof. You have to be aware of the limitations of your protective cases and bags, because when exposed to the wrong depth of water or length of submersion, water damage can still be possible. When all things fail, send them in for phone water damage repair.

If your cell phone still creating problems and not work properly then cell phone repair solutions in Calgary will be a good option for you. We are working with the fast and experienced technicians who are efficient to provide you help in a situation of damages.

Steps You Need to Do before Finding Your iPhone a New Home

If you're amongst the many that just can't ever resist the Apple temptation of the modern Adams and Eves, you have probably bought yourself another iPhone to keep up with the times. 5, 6, 7, the pluses, and soon 8, by now you could have owned at least one of those. Because you love your gadgets so much, you know it's just right to find them a new home before wear and tear take them away, or a cellphone repair won't do them any good.

Before you say goodbye to your pre-loved device, here are some things you should do with your iPhone.

Unlock Your Phone

If you would prefer to sell your old unit at a slightly higher price, then you should know when and how to unlock a phone. Buyers would find your phone more appealing, especially when it's not bound to a particular cell phone company. This marketing strategy cellular provider’s use doesn’t work for everyone. Hence, sending your old device for a phone unlocks service will be worth the price.

Back Up

If you have important files or data you would like to keep intact, you can either back them up on iTunes, or iCloud, or your PC if you have those cables and apps that can store your treasured documents on your computer. This step is a way to go, although pretty much everything that you've obtained from the iTunes or App Stores could be re downloaded free of charge.

Switch Off Find My iPhone

This procedure is tremendously necessary. If you ever activated iCloud or Find My iPhone, there's a huge likelihood that Activation Lock has been set up on your phone. This impressive anti-theft attribute calls for the initial Apple ID used to run the iPhone's unique cell phone solutions. While these features are excellent to keep burglars at bay, failure to switch this function off may cause your prospective buyer some unwanted iPhone repair. Calgary is accessible to Apple stores and third-party cell phone repair shops. But a trip to these places won't be that convenient.

Default Factory Settings

After doing the above steps, you know your phone is almost ready to be sold. Then again, at this point, you may have to do two more things. First, check your new iPhone to see if your iCloud and Apple IDs are working and if there are other files you've missed backing up. Once you confirmed you're done and ready to move on, and then restore your old unit to its original factory settings.

This step should erase most of your data on your old phone, although you may have to check your Contacts. Deleting them can be a tedious task because you may have to do it one-by-one. This step is something that you shouldn't forget. The last thing you would like is for your friends and family getting calls or text messages from a total stranger.

How Unlocking an iPhone Can Make You Loyal to Apple

1 iPhone vs Android

I have been persuaded to leave the Android smartphone world when I received a hand-me-down iPhone 4S at no cost. Don't get me wrong. It was not my first time using Apple devices. I have had iTouch, iPad, and iPods in the past.

At the time, I wasn't fascinated with the cell phone solutions an iPhone gives, although I must admit I loved playing with my other devices. I was biased; truth be told because I didn't see any cell phone batteries. My biggest concern each time I buy a device is how long wills each charging cycle last?

If there's one thing I am after, it's being able to use my phone for all of its glory without having the need to recharge every few hours or daily. Cellular providers make money out of my call and messaging needs and if I'm already paying cell phone companies too much, I'd better save some on my utility bill. My smartphone never failed me on this and if it does, I know I can easily find a replacement.

I was also scared to buy an iPhone then because it came with a hefty price and I wasn't sure if the battery would serve my expectations. For some other reasons, I just didn't want to pay extra for iPhone repair. Calgary Apple stores offer a warranty, but I refused to take part in all those things.

2 How to Unlock a Phone Manufactured by Apple

So the free iPhone came, but I was still reluctant to use it. I was very satisfied with my Samsung phone and used the white iPhone 4S for gaming. Sadly, my Android phone petered out on me out of the blue. I went to a cell phone repair shop, and they said it would cost me several hundred to salvage my phone. So I thought, I'd pass with the repair and use the iPhone instead.

I tried my SIM card, only to find out the device was locked to one of the Japanese cellular providers I haven't heard before. Good thing I was still at the phone repair shop and they gave me my options on how iPhone unlock services go. They joked about me going to Japan to have the Softbank restriction bypassed. I tried to smile but at the back of my head, I knew I wouldn't go that far.

They offered a software unlocking method that made me cringe - jailbreaking. I refused because I've heard people debating whether it's legal or safe, and that I have another option - the Gevey SIM. It was a hardware that consists of what looked like the iPhone's SIM card slot, and the gold plate we can find on our SIMs. All right, we tried that.

After paying what I consider a decent amount for the service, I was very pleased. Communication never felt more sophisticated, complete, and as multi-faceted as with an iPhone - to think I am just using a 4S. (Notice the verb tense. Yup, I still have it and it's as sturdy as forever.)
