How Unlocking an iPhone Can Make You Loyal to Apple

1 iPhone vs Android

I have been persuaded to leave the Android smartphone world when I received a hand-me-down iPhone 4S at no cost. Don't get me wrong. It was not my first time using Apple devices. I have had iTouch, iPad, and iPods in the past.

At the time, I wasn't fascinated with the cell phone solutions an iPhone gives, although I must admit I loved playing with my other devices. I was biased; truth be told because I didn't see any cell phone batteries. My biggest concern each time I buy a device is how long wills each charging cycle last?

If there's one thing I am after, it's being able to use my phone for all of its glory without having the need to recharge every few hours or daily. Cellular providers make money out of my call and messaging needs and if I'm already paying cell phone companies too much, I'd better save some on my utility bill. My smartphone never failed me on this and if it does, I know I can easily find a replacement.

I was also scared to buy an iPhone then because it came with a hefty price and I wasn't sure if the battery would serve my expectations. For some other reasons, I just didn't want to pay extra for iPhone repair. Calgary Apple stores offer a warranty, but I refused to take part in all those things.

2 How to Unlock a Phone Manufactured by Apple

So the free iPhone came, but I was still reluctant to use it. I was very satisfied with my Samsung phone and used the white iPhone 4S for gaming. Sadly, my Android phone petered out on me out of the blue. I went to a cell phone repair shop, and they said it would cost me several hundred to salvage my phone. So I thought, I'd pass with the repair and use the iPhone instead.

I tried my SIM card, only to find out the device was locked to one of the Japanese cellular providers I haven't heard before. Good thing I was still at the phone repair shop and they gave me my options on how iPhone unlock services go. They joked about me going to Japan to have the Softbank restriction bypassed. I tried to smile but at the back of my head, I knew I wouldn't go that far.

They offered a software unlocking method that made me cringe - jailbreaking. I refused because I've heard people debating whether it's legal or safe, and that I have another option - the Gevey SIM. It was a hardware that consists of what looked like the iPhone's SIM card slot, and the gold plate we can find on our SIMs. All right, we tried that.

After paying what I consider a decent amount for the service, I was very pleased. Communication never felt more sophisticated, complete, and as multi-faceted as with an iPhone - to think I am just using a 4S. (Notice the verb tense. Yup, I still have it and it's as sturdy as forever.)
